Origin

The origin of Yes-but® isn`t as linear as its name might suggest. The philosophy’s history is far from straightforward.

1996 is the year Yes-but® was officially created. It was then that Berthold Gunster, a theatre director, had the idea of creating an interactive theatre and training programme with the title: Yes-but®. It was to be a mix of comedy theatre, lecture and audience interaction, all bearing the title `Yes-but`. During the first few years the programme slowly develops and by 2005 over 250.000 people have participated in a Yes-but® programme.

From then on Yes-but® starts expanding rapidly. It is in that year that A.W. Bruna publishing asks Gunster to write a book detailing his philosophy. This requests leads to the creation of `Yes-but, what if it all works out?` by the end of the year. The book storms the bestsellers and is nominated for management book of the year 2006 and is promptly translated in English. At the time of writing `Yes-but what if it all works out` has sold over 40.000 copies.

Towards the end of 2005 growth steadily continues and Gunster decides to start training actors and trainers in order for him to focus on writing and developing the Yes-but® philosophy. At the time of writing Yes-but® has 18 employees and 50.000 participants every year. The fifth Yes-but® book has been published and the company is getting ready to expand internationally.
